Medvedev, a former number one, has experienced a torrid year, winning just one match at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in particular - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with former trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's maiden championship since the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface from March of that year.

Success also means Medvedev has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one various tournaments.

"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my child her name was born was for her."

The player's defensive strategy and recurring emotional displays on court had caused observers to wonder if his skill to perform at the highest level was concluded.

But the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and perform assertively, backed up by an better serve.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, securing four of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players swapped breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden tour championship, took control to force a decider.

Moutet defended four early-game break points in a close third set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner clinched the win with a rally at the net area, with his opponent incapable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
